[JYO] Proposed Town Annexation Information

At the airport comission meeting last night it was stressed that users of the 
airport should try and attend the hearing as the proposed annexation could 
have an effect on Leesburg Airport Operations. The hearing date will be added 
to the LeesburgPilots.com calendar as well.

The following press release was sent out today: 

"George Atwell, Chair of the Town of Leesburg's Annexation Committee and 
Mayor B.J. Webb have announced a public briefing on the proposed annexation 
for town residents, the proposed annexation area's residents, property 
owners, and all other interested persons.  The Loudoun County Board of 
Supervisors and staff will also be invited to attend this presentation as 
well. 

The presentation will be held on January 9, 2002 at the Leesburg Hall, 
located at 215 Loudoun Street SW at 7:30 pm. 

Atwell said, "We need a large facility to accommodate the community and to 
have ample room for staff and Committee presentations.  The main purpose is 
to present as much information as possible and answer questions from those 
attending." 

Mayor Webb said it would be unfair to the community to ask for input on a 
plan before the entire proposal is presented and explained.  "We think it is 
important to the community to hear as much as possible about the proposal and 
the reasoning behind it before any public hearings are held," she stated. 

According to Atwell, the initial proposal may be amended prior to submission 
to the State Commission on Local Government, and even later as the review 
process moves forward.  "All interested parties will have adequate time to be 
heard before final decisions are made," he continued. 

Mayor Webb said, "The negotiating team feels it is very important not to rush 
the input process until the proposal has been fully presented in an 
environment that has adequate space and does not conflict with citizen's 
holiday plans."

Additionally, the Board of Supervisors has scheduled a public hearing on 
Monday January 14th at 7:30 pm in the County Board Room on annexation. 
Interested parties are urged to attend and participate.
