Pilots Required for Research on Runway Safety Technologies
The MITRE Corporation Center for Advanced Aviation System Development
(CAASD)
McLean, Virginia
As part of a FAA Runway Safety initiative, the Center for Advanced Aviation
System Development at the MITRE Corporation is conducting a series of cockpit
simulations evaluating proposed automated runway safety technologies. The
simulations are intended to determine safety benefits of an integrated safety
technology. Adoption of the proposed automation may decrease the number of
runway incursions.
The simulation will be conducted from April 25th through May 31st and will
require 36 pilots. Pilots should have 100 flight hours within the past year
and either a transport or a GA rating. The simulation environment consists of
a mid-fidelity, generic cockpit with a visual scene. The simulation will
consist of a series of airport surface scenarios in which the pilot will
operate
the aircraft as close as possible to real life and evaluate the safety
technology. Two pilots will be scheduled per day (8:00AM -12:00PM & 12:00PM
â
4:00PM) during the evaluation period. MITRE will provide $125 compensation for
your participation.
For more information, or if you would like to participate please forward
your qualifications, including current aircraft type and crew position
(Captain
or First Officer), and any additional type ratings, to:
