[JYO] OPEN HOUSE Planning team NEEDS YOU!!!

Dear LeesburgPilot e-mail list member -

Last night the OPEN HOUSE planning team had another meeting to discuss
details and make decisions regarding the open house.

We need MANY more people if we are going to have this event and make it
a success.

An example would be PARKING. We need a person to handle PARKING from
soup to nuts. Try and arrange bus service, and alternate parking lots
near the airport (like churches, office park, armory, grass areas around
Leesburg, Handicap access, emergency vehichle access, firelanes, etc.
etc. etc. Build team of parking attendants, traffic directors, (Police
Explorers, Jaycees, Boy Scounts, sponsors, etc)

Each item on our list of duties has a laundry list of it's own to be
completed and managed thouroughly.

To do all that, we need people.. We need YOU!

How to help...

1. JOIN the OPEN HOUSE Planning group at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jyoairshow/

2. Come to the meetings (or work via e-mail) and select your area to
volunteer or area of expertise.

We need people NOW to get the ball rolling and built their support
comittees!

Here are the notes from our meeting two weeks ago.

Thanks,

Ed

We tried to reach some decisions in an effort to move the planning
process forward. Here is what we came up with:

Name: 2004 Leesburg Airport Open House

Date: Saturday September 25, 2004

Theme & Focus: Building a stronger relationship with the community
through education, a greater awareness of general aviation, and the
benefits the airport provides to the community.

With this theme in mind the group decided that an air show would be a
great way to attract folks of all ages to the open house. Once they are
at the airport, we would then have the opportunity to educate them about
general aviation and the role the airport plays in the local community.

Listed below is the first pass at the list of major planning areas and
various ideas. We really need everyone to show their support for the
open house and help contribute to its success.

Please don’t just assume that someone else will step up to the plate.
We need everyone's help! The more folks who participate the easier it
is for everyone.

Please plan on attending the next meeting which is scheduled for
Wednesday, May 12th at 7pm. Peidmont Hawthorne has kindly offered up
their conference room for the next meeting.

Some major planning areas identified during the meeting are as follows,
in no particular order:

Air Show Coordination
Static Displays
Children’s Rides and Attractions
Food and Concessions Sales
Communication, Public Relations
Fund Raising
Airplane Rides
Young Eagles
Parking
Security
Bathrooms
Insurance
Seminars, Presentations, and Educational Classes

*****************************************************************

Other notes/comments from the brainstorming session included:
• The possibility of combining the event with an automobile or
motorcycle display.
• We could raffle off a prize in order to raise funds.
• Static Displays: Beechcraft, Diamond, Av-Ed, Aviation Adventure,
Fleet Capital, Angel Flight, Leesburg/Loudoun tourism displays, Civil
Air Patrol, Young Eagles, Warbird airplanes, Aviation Medical/Rescue,
Fire Department/Fire Engine, Police Department, Military Airplanes &
Helicopters, etc.…….
• Note that one issue is that amount of area available for static
displays is somewhat limited.
• Radio controlled airplane demonstration.
• Possibly a military fly-by.
• Note that we need to maintain good communication with the folks
currently based at the airport, the town of Leesburg, nearby
residents/businesses, etc.
• Several suggestions were proposed for possible air show announcers.
• Need to activity recruit local corporate sponsors.
• Might be able to recruit local boy/girl scout troops to help with
the open house.
• Udvar Hazy / Air & Space participation
• Traveling aviation bus promotions.
• Talk to / invite the International Council of Air Shows
• Local entertainment/band.
• Keynote speakers, local celebrities
• Static displays in the new terminal highlighting the airports
contribution to the local community.
