[JYO] Loudoun County Planning Commission Public Hearing June 19th

The weeks ahead are going to be critical ones for the future of
Leesburg Airport.

This Monday evening (June 19th) the Loudoun County Planning
Commission will hold a Public Hearing for the Cross Trails project
that is being submitted by the Peterson Companies. This is the
project that is being proposed for the property immediately adjacent
to our runway and extends to the Greenway (approximately 490 acres).

There are a number of problems with their proposal, but the two that
create the greatest problem are: (1) building up to 1,366
residential properties (550 of which will be age-restricted.resident
that as guaranteed future complaints) and (2) dramatically reducing
the land upon which the airport can expand its operations to meet
future demands.

Peterson Companies has a lot of momentum with this project and the
only way we can hope to defeat it is to be extraordinarily
proactive. This means we need as many pilots as possible to attend
the June 19th meeting and the two meetings that will follow in the
coming weeks (Public Hearing for the Loudoun County Board of
Supervisors and if a vote in not held that evening....which it
probably will not...the very next Board of Supervisors regular
meeting when Cross Trails will be voted upon).

The June 19th meeting will be held at 6:00 P.M. in the Board of
Supervisors Meeting Room at 1 Harrison Street, S.E., Leesburg,
Virginia (large building immediately northeast of Tuscarora Mill
Restaurant). Plan to come a few minutes early so you can sign the
Petitioner Roster.

Please let me know if you will be able to attend the June 19th
meeting. If you can, and are willing to speak on behalf of the
Airport, I will be happy to send you a copy of the briefing darts
that I intend to use when I speak before the Planning Commission.

As I mentioned above, Peterson has a huge head start on us and the
only way we can possibly hope to prevail is to show up in large
numbers and speak against the development. I don't know about you,
but I don't want to be sitting on the east side of the runway 10
years in the future looking at the development that could lead to
restricted flight operations or worse, the closure of our airport
and say to myself: "gee, I wish I would have been more active in
defeating that project."

Please open up your calendar and make the meeting Monday
night...your personal appearance is vital.
