Finally. We have secured our insurance and will be starting our
club on the SR-22 in early November. The deal is: $1200/month
for 12 months. For that you get 150 hours ($88 per hour!) for
the cost of fuel plus a good number of weekend and overnight
trips without fee. The only other expenses will be a renter’s
insurance policy, an initiation fee and a "wear and tear" parts
expense sharing system if membership is below a certain level.
The initiation fee will depend on the number of people who sign
up and will remain at that price from then on. I am figuring
somewhere between $2500 and $4000 which will go directly to the
insurance company. We will also off a "limited" membership for
around $800/month for 75 hours per year. Initiation will be in
the same ball park for that membership as well.
The time quals are a bit steep but since there will be no
hourly price they shouldn't be too bad. 25 hours Cirrus time
and an instrument rating with 500 total time. We will be able
to finish IFR training in the aircraft for people but they can
not solo until they meet these times and/or they get approved
by the insurer. We will have two Cirrus qualified CFI's who
will also be able to do transition training and recurrent
training for any Cirrus owners.
This is our shot and bringing a decent business back to VKX
after 3 years of garbage. For members of his list I am offering
a $100/month discount ($1200/year) off full membership and
$50/month off the limited ($600) to help get this going. If
you figure your hourly costs it would be $88 per hour for the
full membership (higher with the initiation) which I'll bet you
won't find anywhere else on the planet. Last, I am offering a
$200 bounty for referrals. If you know anyone who might be
interested tell them to give us your name and if they sign up
I'll pay you $200. That'll buy at least a tank of gas in a
Bonanza right?
If you want to see the SR-22 come to VKX. I also have pictures
posted at http://www.lrn2fly.com/SR22.htm. I hope this will be
the first of our Cirrus aircraft and hope that this list can
help spread the word. With any luck this type of club can start
to help bring life back to VKX.
Thanks,
JD
