Ed:
I do apologize for not giving you updates and I will do everything I can to
do a better job.
I would appreciate a little “badgering” from you to help remind me. I not
used to posting to lists. My fault again!
So, I would like to start right now if I may:
1) Ritz Camera is building a 25,000 square foot hangar on what is
known as pad site A – coming along nicely should be completed by early summer
2) Pad site b (grassy area nest to Ritz) will be advertised shortly
and then stand by for a pre-bid conference in the airport conference room
3) The South Apron is getting ready to be redone entirely:
- The existing hangar row will be deconstructed and both pad sites will be
taken up.
- new storm water system will be put in and then repaved to accommodate 23
new tie-downs. This will be done at the same grade as the main ramp so it will
look like a continuation of the main ramp.
- also in the project is the construction of two new hangar pad sites. One
for a row of 10 T-hangars and one for a row of 6 – 50’ X 50’ corporate hangars
- the tie-down portion should be done by late August or early September
- the hangar portion should go out to bid in August
4) This August we will need to seal our main aircraft parking ramp and
parallel taxiway to include the run up areas. I will have some additional
information on this to include a time schedule and color map depicting the
areas to be sealed and re-striped. Portions of the taxiway will have to be
closed
for a day or two for the sealing and striping. The whole project should take
about a week.
5) The ILS localizer is finished as you may already know. This is the
Mark 20A system with DME. The FAA is now in control of it. They are working
diligently with the town staff in capital projects to get the remainder of the
money for the Glildeslope portion so we may begin the design and
construction of that part ASAP!
6) Once the ILS is complete we will then get a grant in place to
update our ODALS, REILS and our PAPIs and to update and move our AWOS out to
the
Glideslope area. When the ILS is complete we will have to shut down the PAPI
on the ILS runway as it will not be co-located with the ILS touch down point.
That is why we need to go under grant to move it and up date the units as
well (they are old).
7) We still need to purchase land in our approaches due to FAA
requirements. To remain eligible for FAA grants we must keep our approaches
clear of
obstructions.
We should do that anyway for safety reasons.
8) Loudoun County is constructing their new park and ride lot for the
Loudoun County Commuter bus directly across from the old south apron
location. This will entail widening of Sycolin road from the FBO hangar to
just down
past the fuel farm location. This should begin sometime in the next several
weeks. This widening will give us some benefits: a. it will set up the total
alignment of Sycolin road for widening by the Town of Leesburg; b. all of the
power lines and phone lines will be move further away from the airport to the
other side of the road; c. fire hydrants have been installed along Sycolin on
our side which will aid in fire suppression.
Ed, this is all of the information I have at the moment and it is
up-to-date. Please stay in touch with me to remind me to update this
information until
I get in the habit of doing it. I think this is great forum and would like to
continue doing it!!!
Thank you for the hint and the opportunity to get out some good information.
Once again, I apologize to our great community for the lack of info. I will
take steps to correct this error.
Tim
