Wow! This is a hot issue
with the pilots and folks around Leesburg. I have received over 50
responses of support from you folks regarding my e-mail to the Mayor
and Town Council. Some of you just said things like "Good Job" and "Way
to go Ed"... others formulated your own letters to the mayor and
council as well. I have listed a couple of the e-mails below:

P.S. If you do express your views to the Mayor and council, please feel
free to copy me on the e-mail.

Dear
Elected Leaders and Government Representatives:
I would
also like to voice my support of Mr. Levine's solicitation to you.
As a
non-pilot, but a Leesburg, VA resident, I recognize the significant
economic value the Leesburg Executive Airport brings to this area. When
I was considering relocating here, knowing your airport was available
was a strong consideration in my decision making process. As I travel
throughout the country I tell my clients about the great resource the
airport is. So close to IAD (Dulles) but more convenient than any other
Northern Virginia local.
The airport
attribute, if marketed properly can bring additional logistics and
distribution service type businesses to the area. This could be
accomplished without encroaching on land values while supporting the
type of extra tax generating, and industrial commerce activity that
the area so strongly needs and requires.
I strongly
advocate for strengthening the Airport area to become
self-sufficent. This can only be accomplished by selecting an
individual that will represent the city and area aggressively. They
also will need to remain impartial to allow full utilization of this
wonderful aviation resource that is available.
On another
note, as a human resource and logistics professional I am somewhat
dismayed to learn that a selection and recruiting committee would not
include representatives from the industry the candidates would work
with. Without industry input, what confidence do we have the right
candidate will be selected, let alone capable of working with the
integrated government (Local, State and Federal) agencies that are
involved with the airport?
I trust
that this concern and message will receive your thorough
consideration,. I will be looking forward to witnessing the
appropriate action being taken to remedy this potentially costly
situation.
Respectfully
submitted

Dear Mayor and
Council
Ed Levine's polite remarks (below) about sidelining pilots on matters
affecting the welfare of the airport is interesting and important, I
believe, in a profound way. As a tenant and airport user, I am struck
over and over how this otherwise little gem of an airport fails to
approach its potential on account of bickering over who gets to steer
it. In comparison with two other Virginia airports where I kept my
plane inconveniently distanced from my home, it is just short of
appalling.
I realize, unfortunately, that living outside the town itself I have
little or no say and certainly no vote in such matters. So may I then
request submissively that for the benefit of all that this contentious
airport be managed a bit more democratically, parallel with the
founding principles of our country itself?
I offer that such a move, while it may require humility and
generosity, would pay off for the community at large.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Bill Reinecke

Dear Ed:
I strongly support your concern on having Airport Commissioners or a
representative from the aviation community on the interview panel for
the
position of airport director.
Mr. Noe retains the right for final selection, but I believe that he is
wrong
in this and other instances whereby he does not include representatives
of the
airport commission or aviation community to provide input in the
selection
process.
Thank you for your e-mail,
Bob Zoldos
