[JYO] Leesburg Airport Comments

For those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Lissner...............

Sid served on the airport commission for several years.  During that time, he 
never once lifted a finger to assist in any effort whatsoever.  He showed up 
once a month to the meeting, complained about everything, and went home.  As 
Vice Chair for two years, he did nothing.  As Chair of the Finance Committee, 
he never once held a committee meeting.     Ever.........  

The 'facts' he quotes about the airport's finances are incorrect.  The airport 
does, in fact, contribute back to the Town coffers and is NOT 'awash in red 
ink'.  His facts are old, outdated, and when invited (in September of this 
year) to hear the real facts from his replacement as the Chair of the Finance 
Committee, he declined.  I guess the truth hurts, even when briefed to the Town 
Council by his replacement, who has put in countless hours undoing the untruths 
told by Mr. Lissner and others.

Mr. Lissner's claim that the Department of Aviation's economic impact numbers 
are unsubstantiated is, in itself, unsubstantiated and unsupportable.  When I 
confronted him with actual payroll data last year, he scoffed and said 'Anyone 
can make up numbers'.  When I asked him why I should believe him, and not the 
combined staffs of the Virginia Department of Aviation, Department of 
Transportation, and Department of Economic Development, he had no answer.

For anyone with an ounce of sense to suggest that a strip mall and offices are 
better for the local economy than an airport, they have to be taking a 
completely myopic and unsupported point of view.  However, airports are 
inherently political animals, and we're used to his kind.  

It seems Mr. Lissner has decided to be political, rather than rational, and for 
that I wish he had more common sense.
