Ed,
Would you please post this to the Leesburg Pilot's email reflector?
Thanks!
Leesburg Pilots,
We have reached a critical juncture with the
Jetstream 41 fuselage that was donated to
Leesburg Airport last year. Airport Commissioner
Bill Whyte and myself have been working on a
proposal to convert the fuselage into a flight
simulator/educational exhibit for the airport.
However, without a place on the field or
additional interest, it is likely that
the fuselage will be given to a local
organization for fire & rescue training.
While this is also an educational purpose, we
would like to see the fuselage given a
community-facing mission of promoting Leesburg
Airport and teaching local students and pilots
about the science and character of aviation,
local procedures, and safety-enhancing
information. Additionally, there is no reason
that the finished fuselage could not be
used for rescue training in a non-destructive
capacity. An organization in the UK,
www.jetstream-club.org, has equipped another
Jetstream 41 as a flight simulator on a
shoestring budget, and is a resource to us in
this endeavor.
However, without support, this is not going to
happen. If you or your organization would like
to make use of the Jetstream 41 fuselage,
please contact Commissioner Whyte through the
airport office at 703-737-7125 immediately. A
decision is likely to take place at the next
airport commission meeting on Tuesday May 18th.
Thank you,
Sean Sheedy
