High-tech flight planner debuts at Expo

Expo attendees are already experiencing demonstrations of AOPA's new,
high-tech Internet flight planner. AOPA Internet Flight Planner (AIFP) is a
new,
Web-based flight-planning tool that will be accessible to members through
popular browsers and operating systems anywhere there's an Internet connection.

AIFP features a route planner that computes distance, time, and fuel usage
based
on cruising speed and type of aircraft; real-time weather and TFR reports
and enhanced terrain images. For each planned route, airport directory
information is displayed with links to fuel prices, terminal procedures, and
local
weather. Members can automatically update their navigation log and file an
online flight plan directly to the FAA. Existing pilot and aircraft
information
stored in Real Time Flight Planner will be migrated to the new application
prior to AIFP's launch. RTFP will be retired on Jan. 16, 2009. Try out AIFP on
AOPA online.
