[JYO] HYDE FIELD REOPENING TO BASED PILOTS

Washington Executive/Hyde Field (W32) in Clinton, Maryland,
has been approved to reopen for based aircraft operations tomorrow
(Saturday, September 28). Transportation Security Administration approval
for the reopening comes five months after the airport was closed by TSA.

The FAA cancelled Notam 2/4584, which prohibited almost all general aviation
operations at the airport, at 1758 Z (1:58 p.m.) today. The airport is still
subject to the enhanced security procedures of SFAR 94 and remains closed
to transient aircraft; only aircraft based at Washington Executive/Hyde Field

may use the facility.

"While the AOPA staff advocated the reopening, the real credit goes to the
local AOPA members and airport officials," said AOPA Senior Vice President
Andrew V. Cebula. "The persistence of Ray Isherwodd, who serves as the Hyde
Field security officer; Gary Bielstein, AOPA's Airport Support Network
volunteer; and Nabil J. Asterbadi, the airport owner--plus many other
dedicated
pilots based at Hyde--has resulted in this reopening. These folks spent
countless hours working to develop a revised security plan and have it
accepted by TSA."

AOPA's efforts remain focused on fully restoring operations by non-based
aircraft to the "D.C. Three" (Hyde Field, Potomac Airpark, and College
Park Airport), all located in the Washington, D.C., area. These are the
only three general aviation airports in the country that are still under
severe security restrictions as a result of the September 11, 2001, terrorist

attacks.
