[JYO] GA is still grounded...

U.S. airspace reopened to commercial airliners, but general aviation still
grounded
Mineta tells AOPA he is working to get GA flying consistent with national
security
9/13/01 11:22:42 AM — Secretary of Transportation Norm Mineta has reopened
U.S. airspace to commercial airline and cargo traffic, but said the airspace
still remains closed to general aviation. Mineta says a decision on GA will
be made later today. Mineta, on his way to a White House meeting, called
Boyer earlier and pledged that he would work for a way to get general
aviation flying as soon as possible consistent with national security.

Despite a notam issued earlier this morning opening the airspace to all
traffic, FAA has just posted a new notam keeping the airspace closed to GA.

The general aviation desk at the Air Traffic Control Command Center has just
issued the following notice:

10:55 AM EDT Notice From the GA Desk at ATCSCC
GA OPERATORS NOT TO ENTER ATC SYSTEM UNTIL FUTHER NOTICE

AOPA vehemently objected to the different treatment of general aviation.

AOPA has also told FAA that no pilot should be penalized for flying based
upon information contained in the first notam.

AOPA continues to talk with Secretary Mineta and senior FAA officials to
resolve this discrimination against general aviation.
