GA coalition developing plan for restoring airspace access
10/15/01 6:47:03 PM ET — Representatives from the general aviation community
met today to reach consensus on security recommendations made by AOPA and
others for easing restrictions on VFR flying. AOPA, EAA, HAI, NATA, NBAA, and
NASAO all participated in the discussion addressing aircraft and airport
security and airspace operations.
There are four main areas: resuming VFR flight in the 15 remaining enhanced
Class B airspace areas; resuming general aviation operations in the
exclusionary areas in Washington, D.C. (including Washington's Ronald Reagan
Airport), New York and Boston; expanding international operations; and
permitting VFR operations for specialty operators such as aerial advertising,
electronic news gathering, and traffic reporting. As the chair of the General
Aviation Coalition, AOPA President Phil Boyer will be forwarding the
recommendations on behalf of the participating members of the coalition to
the FAA by Wednesday morning.
