[JYO] GA BANNED FROM SKIES FOR STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

GA BANNED FROM SKIES FOR STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS
AOPA is sending this message to urge pilots to exercise extreme
caution when the State of the Union address gets under way in
Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, February 2. President Bush's address
has been declared a national security event, and the level of security
has triggered temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) similar to those of
his inauguration in January.

The FAA has issued a notam
( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html#5/0809 ) prohibiting all VFR
general aviation flight within the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Air
Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Wednesday.
To provide further guidance to pilots, the FAA also issued a flight
advisory [download
( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/newsitems/2005/050128advisory.pdf )].

During the ban, notams are suspended regarding pattern work and
ingress/egress procedures at airports within the ADIZ. The only
exception is for IFR aircraft landing or departing Washington Dulles
International and Baltimore-Washington International airports.

Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages
pilots to obtain a briefing and CHECK NOTAMS before every flight.
TFR violators will be intercepted and forced to land.
