Invitation to Participate in Research on New Concepts in Aviation

The MITRE Corporation Center for Advanced Aviation System Development
(CAASD)

McLean, Virginia

The FAA is considering changes in tower operating procedures that may
impact pilot workload on arrival. We are asking pilots to participate
in a study assessing workload on approach and down to the threshold in
various operational situations.

Participant Requirements: The simulation will require participants to
operate as a crew in a part-task flight simulator that supports a
subset of the functions and displays available on a commercial flight
deck. Participants' primary task will consist of flying a series of
approaches and communicating with a controller. You must be familiar
with glass cockpit electronic flight instrument systems (EFIS) e.g.,
Boeing 737/757/ 767, Airbus 319/320 and with flight management system
(FMS) control-display unit (CDU) operations. You must also have recent
operational experience flying these types of airplanes.

The simulation will be conducted the week of December 15th and again
the week of January 5th. Individuals will be asked to participate for
a half day (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.). MITRE
will provide $180 compensation for completing the study. There are no
known risks or physical discomforts associated with this simulation
beyond those of ordinary life.

If you are interested and fulfill the requirements, please contact
Tracey Kenney at 703-983-1606 or (tkenney@xxxxxxxxx) for further
details and to schedule your participation.

Thank you for your interest and support!
