Invitation to Participate in Research on Aircraft Spacing
The MITRE Corporation Center for Advanced Aviation
System Development (CAASD)
McLean, Virginia
MITRE's Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD) is
soliciting
the help of pilots to assess flight crew roles and responsibilities
during a notional
aircraft spacing concept simulation. The concept is in the early stages
of
development and flight crew input is necessary. The outcome of this
study will be
used to mature the concept prior to any field trials.
Participant Requirements: The simulation will require pilot
participants to perform
en-route flight operations in a medium-fidelity flight simulator. You
must be qualified
in turbojet aircraft, be familiar with the Traffic Alert and Collision
Avoidance System
(TCAS), have at least 100 hours of FAR 121 glass cockpit (e.g. EFIS)
experience on
any type aircraft, and must have recent qualification in an aircraft
for which standard
operations permit the routine use of both auto throttle and manual
throttle for speed
control. Pilots of aircraft not equipped with auto throttle systems are
not eligible.
Recently furloughed pilots with appropriate qualifications with the
past 12 months are
eligible; however, pilots that participated in the MITRE CAVS
simulations are not.
The simulation will be conducted from August 22 through September 1,
2006. You
will be scheduled for one full day (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) with breaks
and lunch
provided, and MITRE will provide $175 compensation for your
participation.
There are no known risks or physical discomforts associated with this
simulation
beyond those of ordinary life.
If you fulfill the requirements, please contact Shannon Bruther at
703-983-3639 or
(sbruther@xxxxxxxxx) for further details and to schedule your
participation. During the
scheduling process, you will be asked to provide the following
information:
qualifications, current aircraft type and crew position (Captain or
First Officer), any
additional type ratings, and any past MITRE simulation experience.
Thank you for your cooperation!
