FAA and Congress take Columbus Day holiday
Restoring VFR in Class B still top priority for AOPA
— AOPA is continuing its non-stop efforts to restore
VFR privileges in Class B airspace. However, FAA and Congress are taking the
long Columbus Day holiday, and nothing will happen until they return.
Congress adjourned Thursday, and most members traveled back to their home
districts. AOPA's vice president for air traffic services was in FAA
headquarters Saturday but reports that there were few senior decision-makers
in the building. Much of the hard work done last week, including AOPA member
phone calls to Congress and AOPA's visits to Capitol Hill, should begin to
bear results this coming week. FAA focused on reopening Reagan National
Airport to commercial flights last week; this week AOPA will push the agency
to concentrate on general aviation.
