FAA TO ESTABLISH TFR OVER HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND, FRIDAY AFTERNOON
Pilots flying in the Mid-Atlantic area are cautioned that the FAA
has issued a notam establishing a temporary flight restriction (TFR)
area centered on Hagerstown Regional-Richard A Henson Field (HGR) on
Friday afternoon. This TFR is in addition to the TFR over Camp David,
Maryland, which will be in effect from Friday afternoon through
Sunday afternoon.
The Hagerstown TFR prohibits general aviation flight operations below
18,000 feet within a 10-nm radius of Hagerstown Regional-Richard A.
Henson Field (HGR) from 3:30 p.m. until 4:35 p.m. local time on
Friday, November 7. As a result, HGR will be closed for the duration
of this TFR.
The TFR centered on Prohibited Area P-40, the presidential retreat at
Camp David, Maryland, becomes effective at 4:20 p.m. local on Friday
and continues until 4 p.m. Sunday, November 9; it restricts flight
below 18,000 feet within a 10-nm radius of P-40 and prohibits flight
within a 5-nm radius.
Both the Hagerstown and Camp David notams are available on AOPA Online
( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html#3/0817 ).
Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages
pilots to obtain a briefing and CHECK NOTAMS before every flight.
Violators will be intercepted and forced to land.
The AOPA Air Safety Foundation has prepared a handy card that provides
the intercept procedures that could save your life, since military
pilots have shoot-down authority. Download the card from AOPA Online
( http://download.aopa.org/epilot/2003/intercept.pdf ), learn the
information carried on it, and carry it with you when you fly. ASF
also has an online course for navigating in today's complex airspace
environment called "Know Before You Go"
