Don't be alarmed by the F-16's flying overhead Tuesday afternoon in the
northern Virginia area. A small aircraft was flying in or near the restricted
airspace of the National Capitol Region.
The plane did have clearance to be there, but the clearance was not routed
through the correct channels.
As a precaution, NORAD scrambled two F-16's out of the Andrews Air Force
Base. By the time the F-16's got over Northern Virginia, NORAD learned about
the
clearance. The fighter-jets returned to the base without incident.
Norad also tells WTOP there was a second small aircraft in the northern
Virginia area at the same time. The jets circled to check-out that small plane
and
it was also considered not to be a threat.
