Ed's Leesburg Airport Commission Meeting Notes
Disclaimer: I do not take notes as well as my secretary Dennis Boykin did
last month, but I got the meat of the meeting for you.
A couple of petitioners talked about wanting the "multiple aircraft in town
hangars" approved. I also mentioned the LeesburgPilots.com Plane Pull team.
Committee Reports:
- Rules and Regs - Work in progress
- ILS work group - Team went to VDOA. Leesburg will receive $774,000 in
funding. Possible contract control tower in future plan. Might cost 2-3 million
to
build and average operating costs are $380,000 per year.
Airport Director Report -
Terminal Project on schedule and on budget. Due to open March 1.
South Hangar demolition project low bid was $46,000.00
Town is getting ready for hurricane Isabel, securing lose items, and getting
ready. If airport has to close do to damage, they will keep folks informed
via my e-mail list and the town web site.
If a large scale cleanup is required, I will e-mail details to the list so
that volunteers can help get their own airport back up to snuff.
There was some discussion about how well Cindi is running things at the
airport and that started a discussion about how Mr. Noe has expressed that he
will
make his choice for airport director with two other people (neither from
Leesburg). Those at the meeting and the commission expressed that they felt Mr.
Noe
should seek the input of at least one Airport Commission Member and a pilot
from the Leesburg Committee. (Bob: If you change your mind when you read this,
I can help you get the word out)
Self Service fuel also sits with Mr. Noe's office right now.
The "two planes in one hangar" issue was passed. Applause followed. After the
meeting there was some discussion as to how it should work. Would an
existing tenant be able to invite a friend to share their hangar or would the
next
person on the hangar list be the only possible choice for sharing the hangar
(assume compatible sized airplane). The few pilots talking about it said it
should be like adding a room mate to an apartment it should be their choice who
they add.. whether or not their choice was on the hangar list or not. How ever
it is decided, both parties will sign a lease with the town.
Stay safe.
