[JYO] Ed's Airport Commission Meeting Notes...

Ed's Airport Commission Meeting Notes...
I know that many of you enjoyed reading the extensive notes, humor and
"spin" that Dennis Boykin put on the airport commission meeting notes. Dennis
has
chosen to serve the pilots in a new and exciting way.
On the upside, Dennis Boykin is now a member of the Leesburg Airport
Commission. On the downside, you are back to reading my chicken scratch to
get the
meat out of the meetings.
Congrats Dennis!

Jeff Milford, GM of Piedmont Hawthorne, briefly explained that there is a
fuel discount program for based customers, a "reward program" that can extend
to
other Piedmont Hawthorne locations. Jeff promised to get me more
information that I will send out to the list.
New terminal should be wrapping up major completion at the end of the month.
After punch lists, etc... expect the opening to be in Mid April with a
Ribbon cutting to take place around May 8th, 2004. Later in the year we will
still try to have some sort of celebration/open house/airshow.. Watch for an
e-mail in the future asking for volunteers, donations and general help and
support.
Runway Resurfacing project still looks like it will happen next year. The
runway badly needs resurfacing. Information on closings, etc., will be
available via NOTAM and probably via this list in advance.
Commission discussed the Security plan and talked about security items like
prop locks, ID badges, fences, card reader gates, etc. It was also discussed
that Leesburg Police that respond to the airport should take a "class" on
airport procedures. Kinda of like Leesburg Airport 101. This way an officer
might realize that an airplane going down the taxiway on a hot summer day with
his door open is NOT an emergency, etc. The airport security subcommittee will
address these issues.
Maybe the next meeting will be held in the new terminal... Time will tell...
Stay tuned.
Blue Skies and tailwinds.
