Ed,
There are two email lists for local pilots: Jeff's list and mine
(_http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dcpilots_
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dcpilots) ).
The two email lists have very different philosophies. My YahooGroups list
has a more inclusive notion of what's on-topic. That is, if the thread is
between local pilots and it's something that area pilots might talk about
over a cup of coffee, then the topic is okay for _www.dcpilots.net_
(http://www.dcpilots.net) .
DCPilots.net is a list *for* pilots and others in aviation in the
Washington, DC area and I don't want to preclude list members from
discussing things that are important to them.
My email list allows --and encourages-- local aviation businesses, such as
FBOs and flying clubs to mention their services. I think that local pilots
want to know about new airplanes that they can fly, for instance.
The new email list automatically strips out attachments to prevent the
spread of computer viruses. I've hosted a number of email lists on
YahooGroups, including PalmPilotPilots and find that while not perfect,
email lists run well on YahooGroups.
Another difference between the two lists is the way this list will deal with
inappropriate posts. The moderators will always reply privately to a list
member who breaks a rule, rather than to the entire list.
Sincerely,
Bill Adler
