Could Normal Operations Resume at Reagan National?
Updated: Thursday, Jun. 26, 2003 - 5:33 PM EDT.
WASHINGTON -- Ronald Reagan National Airport is closer to resuming normal
operations.
WTOP learned that a House Transportation panel -- on a voice vote -- is
recommending a return to general aviation at the airport. Congressman Jim Moran
(D-VA) is a chief supporter of returning normalcy to the airport after the
terror
attacks of September 11, 2001.
Moran thinks getting Reagan National moving again at full speed will help the
local economy.
"General aviation is an important part of the airport and the regional
economy and I am confident that lifting the ban on general aviation can be done
safely and securely," said Moran.
Part of the new security measures include new background checks that include
fingerprinting.
The airport measure must still go before the full House, but is expected to
be approved soon.
