Contact Senators and Urge Them To Co-Sponsor Inhofe Bill
Updated: 10/10/01

EAA is asking members to encourage their U.S. Senators to co-sponsor
legislation that would require the White House to report to Congress on
airspace restrictions imposed as a result of the September 11 terrorist
attacks.

The <A HREF="http://www.eaa.org/news/news/inhofe_bill.html";>legislation</A> ,
authored by Senator James Inhofe (R-OK), would require the
President to submit to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence
and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence a report containing (1) a
description of the restriction, if any, on the use of national airspace put
in place as a result of the Sept. 11 attacks and (2) justification for such
restriction remaining in place." It is in the form of both an amendment
(#1847) to the Aviation Security Act (S-1447) and as a standalone bill,
S-1512. The report would be required on the date of enactment.

"VFR flight continues to be grounded in enhanced Class B airspace and
thousands of businesses are being ruined," said EAA Vice President of
Government Relations Earl Lawrence. "Senator Inhofe's proposal would help the
general and recreational aviation industry better understand why these
restrictions continue to be enforced so we can offer security-based
recommendations. If this situation doesn't change soon, the terrorists will
have succeeded in damaging an integral part of our nation's transportation
infrastructure."
