CAMP DAVID TFR TO EXPAND THIS WEEKEND Pilots flying in the Mid-Atlantic area are cautioned that the temporary flight restriction (TFR) area centered on Prohibited Area P-40, the presidential retreat at Camp David, Maryland, is expected to grow larger starting tomorrow evening, September 12, and should continue through Sunday, September 14, based on AOPA's best information at this time. The FAA had not issued the notam establishing the TFR as of 4:45 p.m. Eastern time Thursday. AOPA did not have confirmation on the times that the TFR will be in effect. Based on previous notams, the TFR may extend to a 10-nm radius below 18,000 feet and all operations (except military, law enforcement, and air ambulance) will likely be prohibited within 5 nm below 12,500 feet. AOPA will post the notam and a graphic on AOPA Online as soon as it becomes available ( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html ). Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages pilots to obtain a briefing and CHECK NOTAMS before every flight. Violators will be intercepted and forced to land. The AOPA Air Safety Foundation has prepared a handy card that provides the intercept procedures that could save your life, since military pilots have shoot-down authority. Download the card from AOPA Online ( http://download.aopa.org/epilot/2003/intercept.pdf ), learn the information carried on it, and carry it with you when you fly. ASF also has an online course for navigating in today's complex airspace environment called "Know Before You Go" ( http://www.aopa.org/asf/know_before/ ).
