Ladies and Gentlemen:  During the past several weeks a number of you have 
communicated with me about the appointment of the airport director and library 
director.  I appreciate the thoughts that you have expressed and thank you for 
your interest in who serves in these two positions.

Some of you have had advice about the process and who should be involved.  
The selection of a department director is among my most important 
responsibilities and one that I take very seriously.  When I appoint a director 
who serves a 
Commission, I stress the importance of the Commission's role and how the 
director must serve the legitimate needs of the Commission. 

Joe Delia, FAA Washington Airports District Office and Renny Emanuel, airport 
director in Winchester, VA. have agreed to serve with me on the panel to 
select the airport director.  Nicole Ard, Assistant to the town manager, Betsy 
Fields, Director of Economic Development, who has a degree in Historic 
Preservation, and Edwin S. Clay, Library Director for Fairfax County are 
assisting in 
the selection of Library Director.  They are completing the initial interviews 
and I will participate in interviewing the final two or three.

I expect to make both appointments within the next month.  Because so much 
interest has been expressed in these two positions, I wanted to let you know 
how 
I am proceeding.  I look forward to making the two announcements soon.
