[JYO] Bigger Fuel Discount for JYO based customers & other meeting notes...

Last week, a "fuel price committee" met to compare local area fuel prices and
see if anything could be done to relieve some of the fuel price pressure on
the Leesburg Pilots. The committee members present were Roger Greathouse (GM
at Piedmont Hawthorne), Doug McNeely (Airport Director), Stanley Caulkins
(Airport Commission President), Roy Steinfort (Airport commission member)
and Ed Levine (AOPA ASN Volunteer and Leesburg Pilots Association Rep.)

The results of the meeting were announced at this evenings airport commission
meeting. Roger Greathouse announced that as of 9AM, Friday, July 13th the
discount for Leesburg Based Pilots will increase from 10 cents per gallon to
25 cents per gallon. There will be a 10 gallon minimum purchase to get the
new discount rate and you must pay with an AirBP card. (If you do not have an
AirBP card, you can get an application at the operations desk or apply online
at this web address:
http://194.129.75.157/Contents/Registration/FlightCardRegistration2_old.asp).
If your purchase is less than 10 gallons, you will receive only the original
10 cents off per gallon discount. This means that the based discount price
per gallon as of today would be 2.58 per gallon (2.83 - 0.25 = 2.58). A
$2.58 per gallon price puts Piedmont Hawthorne in the lower 1/3 of fuel
prices in our area (which does not include the VERY expensive Dulles and
National prices). The 25 cent discount is on a 6-month trial basis.

Airport Commission member Roy Steinfort presented the commission with a quote
for 100LL fuel delivered to the airport for 1.70 per gallon. Roy leads the
drive for self-service fuel at Leesburg and feels that if the Town were to
provide a self service fueling facility, it could pay for itself within a
year and a half. (Based on the cost of fuel being 1.70 per gallon and the
town adding their 50 cents profit per gallon for an end user price of $2.20
per gallon). Other factors are that the town might not want to get into the
fuel business or compete with their largest airport tenant. Discussions and
fact finding will continue.

NOTAMed as such. Expected repairs will be within the week.

The commission voted and ruled that the minimum standards will reduce the
required amount of space for an FBO tenant to lease from 500 sq.ft. down to
250.

Ed Levine told the commission that he is still working with Dulles ATC and
the Dulles FSDO to finalize a date for a "Leesburg Only" session with Dulles
Air Traffic Control Management.

There is a taxi cab problem that was brought up at the meeting. Doug McNeely
will call some the cab vendors for JYO and see if service level standards can
be met. Some transient customers waited for over an hour for a cab.

Dean Smith from the Piedmont Hawthorne Line Service is now employed by the
town as a new airport technician to assist Terry with the daily maintenance
of the airport. Congratulations Dean!
