[JYO] ASF Operation Airspace updated to include ADIZ, security-related restrictions

Feb. 11 — The popular AOPA Air Safety Foundation "Operation Airspace" online
course has been updated with new information on temporary flight restrictions
(TFR) and other security-related airspace imposed around the United States,
including the new air defense identification zone (ADIZ) around Washington,
D.C.

The free online course, created by ASF in Microsoft PowerPoint and ported to
the Web, is available at <A
HREF="http://www.aopa.org/asf/opair2002.htm";>www.aopa.org/asf/opair2002.htm</A>
and takes most pilots
between 10 and 15 minutes to complete. A special section of the course offers
guidance for GA pilots living in or visiting the Mid-Atlantic area where the
new ADIZ around the nation's capital city is posing unique challenges.

"Now more than ever, GA pilots absolutely must observe flight restrictions,"
said ASF Executive Director Bruce Landsberg, "and knowing how the
restrictions work is a good first step.

"Security officials — and the general public — will not tolerate stupid
pilot tricks during this time of national emergency."

The presentation is also now available as a conventional PowerPoint show for
pilots or FAA safety counselors conducting safety meetings in local
communities. It may be downloaded at <A
HREF="http://www.aopa.org/asf/opair.ppt";>www.aopa.org/asf/opair.ppt</A> and is
just
under 4 megabytes total.

The newly revised program will also be included in ASF's "Seminar in a Box"
on airspace, allowing smaller pilot groups in more rural parts of the country
to review airspace knowledge.
