AOPA to testify before Congress on reopening Class B airspace

Update: 10/16/01 4:02:49 PM ET — AOPA will tell Congress tomorrow that nearly
65,000 pilots and more than 20,000 aircraft at 132 airports remain trapped in
enhanced Class B airspace. Testifying before the House aviation subcommittee,
AOPA Senior Vice President of Government and Technical Affairs Andy Cebula
will remind Congress that VFR restrictions still have not been lifted at all
locations, and that "the longer we wait, the more general aviation jobs and
business will go under." In <A

testimony</A> submitted prior to the hearing,
Cebula said, "Enhanced Class B airspace must be opened to VFR traffic. It's
where people live and where business is transacted."

In related news, Representative Bob Filner (D-Calf.) will introduce this
evening legislation to require the FAA to develop an interim plan to restore
VFR flight privileges inside the 15 still restricted enhanced Class B areas.
