AOPA continues to advocate for easing of airspace restrictions on general
aviation
11/5/01 11:05:36 AM ET — In response to the advocacy efforts of AOPA and
others in the general aviation community, the FAA is working on a plan that
would allow VFR operations inside the 18-25 nm rings of the Washington, New
York and Boston no-fly zones and enhanced Class B airspace. Approval from
security officials could come in the next few days. If approved, this action
would bring much-needed relief for airports trapped underneath this airspace.
In Boston, VFR traffic would be permitted at the Beverly, Bedford, and
Norwood Memorial airports. In Washington and New York, 15 airports would
reopen to VFR, including Gaithersburg, Bay Bridge, and Martin State in
Maryland, and Republic Airport in New York. AOPA is continuing its work to
press for general aviation access at airports still impacted by airspace
restrictions.
