VFR ARRIVAL PROCEDURES
Temporary Tower in Effect 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monitor ATIS on 132.95. Avoid
EXPANDED P40 (Prohibited) area (15 nautical miles north of FDK) on all
Arrivals.
Arriving from North of Interstate 70. Before 1 p.m. Proceed to Tank Farm (EMI
VOR r207/8.9nm, N39° 22.4' W77° 02.2'). PRIOR TO REACHING TANK FARM, slow to
and maintain 90 knots and 1500' MSL. If unable to safely operate at 90 knots,
maintain 120 knots and 2,000'MSL. Slower aircraft unable to maintain 90 knots
fly optimum speed and watch for aircraft passing on right. Faster aircraft
unable to safely operate at 120 knots, contact tower on 125.6 for special
instructions or use standard IFR procedures. From tank farm, fly heading of
280 to intercept Interstate 70 before reaching Mount Airy. Watch for merging
traffic from the left.
Arriving from South of Interstate 70. Before 1 p.m. Plan to intercept
Interstate 70 east of Mount Airy. Watch for converging traffic from the
north. PRIOR TO REACHING INTERSTATE 70, slow to and maintain 90 knots and
1500'MSL. If unable to safely operate at 90 knots, maintain 120 knots and
2,000'MSL. Slower aircraft unable to maintain 90 knots fly optimum speed and
watch for aircraft passing on right. Faster aircraft unable to safely operate
120 knots, contact tower on 125.6 for special instructions or use standard
IFR procedures. Follow Interstate 70 to Mt. Airy. Watch for merging traffic
from the right.
After reaching Mt. Airy Proceed westbound from Mt. Airy, via Interstate 70 to
New Market (EMI VOR 254°/15.4 nm, N39° 23.1' W77° 16.7'), monitor FDK
Approach on 121.35. NO RADIO AIRCRAFT follow preceding aircraft and look for
light gun signals from FDK Tower located at runway intersection. Listen for
instructions from FDK Approach, 121.35 as you approach New Market. Follow
instructions to assigned runway, and monitor FDK Tower on 125.6 DO NOT
TRANSMIT UNLESS REQUESTED TO DO SO OR UNLESS YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY. After
landing, turn off at first available taxiway unless otherwise instructed.
Monitor AOPA Advisory on 122.85 and FOLLOW FLAGMEN to parking. VFR Flight
Plans may be closed with AOPA Advisory on 122.85.
VFR HOLDING
If FDK approach instructs arriving VFR aircraft to hold:
Prior to reaching Mt Airy — pick a landmark and circle it, watch for other
aircraft
At or beyond Mt. Airy — proceed to New Market then follow large rectangular
left turn holding pattern to drag strip (N39° 21.1', W77º 17.3'), to water
tank at Damascus (N39° 17.1' W77° 12.5') to Mt Airy as depicted on area
diagram. When hold is lifted, complete your circuit to New Market and proceed
as published. After 1 p.m. Monitor ATIS on 132.95. Unless otherwise
instructed by ATIS, fly direct to FDK and call the tower five miles out on
125.6 for arrival and landing instructions. Avoid the flow of departing
aircraft. VFR Flight Plans may be closed with AOPA Advisory on 122.85. IFR
IFR ARRIVAL PROCEDURES
IFR arrivals can expect delays during MVFR or IFR weather. The ILS RWY 23
will be in use. During VFR weather, be prepared to fall in line with arriving
VFR traffic. After landing, monitor AOPA Advisory on 122.85 and FOLLOW
FLAGMEN to parking. ***********DEPARTURE PROCEDURES WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AT
