GA BANNED FROM SKIES FOR STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS
AOPA is sending this message to urge pilots to exercise extreme
caution when the State of the Union address gets under way in
Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, January 23. President Bush's address
has been declared a national security event, and the level of
security has triggered temporary flight restrictions (TFRs).

The FAA has issued a notam
( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html#7/0381 ) prohibiting all
Part 91 general aviation operations within the Washington, D.C., Air
Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) and Flight Restricted Zone (FRZ)
from 8 p.m. local until 11 p.m. local on Tuesday. To provide further
guidance to pilots, the FAA also issued a flight advisory [download
( http://www.faa.gov/news/updates/media/state_union_advisory.pdf )].

During the ban, notams are suspended regarding pattern work and
ingress/egress procedures at airports within the ADIZ. The only
exception is for IFR aircraft landing or departing Washington Dulles
International (IAD) and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood
Marshall (BWI) airports.

Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages
pilots to obtain a briefing and CHECK NOTAMS before every flight.
TFR violators will be intercepted and forced to land.
