The grounds of the Manassas Airport will once again be home to one of the
premier airshows and static displays in the Washington, DC and northern
Virginia area during the 2002 Manassas Airshow, "Festival of Freedom." Much
like past events of the last few years, airshow fans will enjoy numerous
warbirds throughout the airshow display area. The 2002 event will include a
great deal more military and civilian aerobatic aircraft bringing the event
back to the days of the mid-1990s and the DARE shows. This event will be
located on the east side of the airport near the terminal building and
benefits the <A HREF="http://www.freedommuseum.org/">Freedom Museum</A>.
Headlining the 2002 event will be the US Army
Golden Knights Parachute Team. For years, the Golden Knights performed at
the Manassas DARE show, and we are happy to have them back after many long
years of absence. Look for them to perform twice daily with exciting
freefall parachuting demonstrations. We are also pleased to welcome the
Flying Tigers of the 23rd Fighter Group from Pope AFB with their A-10A
Thunderbolt II. Each afternoon there will be an A-10 Demo from the United
States Air Force.
The newly formed T-6A Texan II Demonstration Team from Randolph AFB, TX will
also perform at this event marking their first performance ever in the
Washington, DC area.
We also have the 2-ship All American Firebirds with their Extra 300s. This
exciting team of aerobatic performers will perform daily as well as a single
ship will perform a solo routine.
Look for a great deal of modern military fighters, trainers, helicopters, and
transports along with some of the area's most recognized warbirds,
homebuilts, and experimental aircraft. We also expect ground equipment from
the military as well as a great display of vintage vehicle as well.
