I know it's been three weeks, but just in case you're still looking:

There are two 12 port hubs (identical model to the "LUG" hub I bring to
meetings) at state surplus - $5 each.
Also some 24 port switches, at least 3 or 4 of them, also $5.

Open until 3pm today.

(And if you want to get crazy, there are some older Mylex hardware PCI
RAID controllers - both 50 pin Fast & 68 pin Ultra Wide SCSI.  I got
mine free with another purchase, so don't know what they are priced at.
A buck or so.  RedHat & Debian automatically detect these during
installation, probably most other distros as well.)
