even having one terminal open w/ it being in the directory of your cdrom
drive will cause your cdrom (or anything else) to not unmount.
A good way to find out what program has your cdrom open is to type:
lsof|grep name
i.e.:
myrond@hexagon:~$ lsof |grep /home/myrond
bash 19455 myrond cwd DIR 3,2 2072 2 /home/myrond
lsof 19498 myrond cwd DIR 3,2 2072 2 /home/myrond
grep 19499 myrond cwd DIR 3,2 2072 2 /home/myrond
lsof 19500 myrond cwd DIR 3,2 2072 2 /home/myrond
The fields are laid out as follows:
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
The only way (that I know of) to umount a device is to be absolutely sure
NOTHING has the device open! :)
