[juneau-lug] Will it spin?

I've got a buddy who wants to try the new Lacie "Bigger Disk" (1 
terabyte, $1200) http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10118
under RH Ent. 
The ad copy states:

    LaCie Bigger Disk can be connected to any computer equipped with
    FireWire 800, FireWire 400, iLink/DV, Hi-Speed USB 2.0 or USB 1.1

    this device requires no driver or software installation for Windows
    XP and Mac OS X users

In addition, he wants to run Samba on top of it.  So which file system 
should he use? 
Any other comments / suggestions?
