I figured that I would do most of the grunt work (the server is in my
basement after all), but I am not very familiar with MySQL, and not at all
with PHP.

Someone with real-world experience to help out would be great.  Phase 1
(absorb knowledge from the books on the shelf by osmosis) would be a great
deal shorter.  :)
