Debian Etch uses Alsa 1.0.13-3 (it's the current stable version). Grabbing
the 1.0.14-rc1 driver, lib, and utility tarballs from the Alsa project, and a
quick .configure, and a make && sudo make install and now the headphone jack
works.
The multimedia button that mutes the sound in windows now glows orange instead
of blue - so the BIOS thinks the sound is muted, even though it's not.
However I'll trade the dead headphone jack for an orange light any day.
