Kevin,
I did the original post. I have a weblog that I maintain for the Mendenhall
Golf Course. This weblog is updated using Blogger (www.blogger.com), an online
weblogging server. This one the first one that I tried and I like using it
since I can update it from anywhere since all the settings are on Blogger. My
wife wants to put her daily third grade newsletter on Blogger so she can
updated it from home or from work.
The beauty of blogs is that once they are setup, you don't have to fuss with
html if you don't want to. Actually, if you use one of the example templates
that are available with Blogger or the other software that is available, you
don't have to do any html at all. Just type in (or paste) your message and
press post and publish, and it is done.
At work, I am using Thingamablog, a Java blogger, to maintain a project diary
on our Lan so the staff working on Juneau Access can see where I am at on my
various tasks. Since the weblog is on the Lan, I just post the entries and then
rebuild the blog and it is ready for everyone to read. Thingamablog can also
publish to the web if you want. Thingamablog is nice in that it not only
archives at the interval that you set, but you can setup categories. For Juneau
Access, I setup Alignments, Environmental, Estimates and Misc., so if someone
only wants to view the Environmental posts, they can select the Environmental
link on the sidebar and only view the environmental cat. posts.
I haven't looked at blog servers, so you will have to do some research on
those. Linux Journal or Linux Magazine had an article on blogs about 6 mos.
ago. That would probably be a good place to start.
Good Luck!
