Hi,
Archive removes the track resources from memory, so that it is not taking up
resources during recording or playback, even though the track is still showing
up in the track view user interface. Use it if you don’t need the track for
the moment.
I am not 100 percent sure, but I think Freeze track applies all the audio
effects to the track’s audio, so that those effects are not processing in
realtime. Then, when you unfreeze, it restores the track audio to unprocessed,
and makes the realtime effects available again. This is useful if your project
is very complex and you need to free up some resources to add still more
effects and instruments, when your playback or recording starts to break up,
become choppy or starts clicking up because your processor is struggling with
all the realtime work it has to do.
When this happens, you can freeze some of the tracks which use realtime reverb,
compressors, EQs, delays Etc, and then continueing to work on your project and
add more effects that you need. You can always unfreeze those tracks and get
the realtime functionality back.
