[jsfg_cinti] Re: list server will stay "open" and un-moderated

Team:

As a graduated member I want to say I agree 100% with Don Lykins. I learned
about my new position (which I love by the way) from another List Serve.

Like this List Serve, there are adults who do not use the List Serve for the
appropriate purpose. I simply delete the e-mails I don't need and review
the important. As this is a new "Open" List Serve, apparently, we have a
few adults who deem to use it for the wrong purpose. Nevertheless, it's a
million times better than having a moderated process.

As a person working full time and attending law school, I find the useless
e-mails to be silly but easily disposable. Previously, JSFG was sending next
to zero informative e-mails. Today, I would say I would average a few per
day and at least 50% are relevant. I genuinely appreciate the new format
and simply ask the membership to consider the contents of what they send on
the List Serve versus changing it back to a very outdated useless process.

Thanks,
Jodie Ganote

PS: Congratulations Don...

Subject: [jsfg_cinti] list server will stay "open" and un-moderated

Paul -
I am currently one of the web masters, but I will be moving on soon as I
just landed a LT consulting gig..

Unfortunately, the group (65 attendees) voted on 9/3 to un-moderate the
list server, in a trial basis or 2-3 months. (moderate = have someone
read and approve every message).

I don't know if you were in attendance, but it was unanimous. NOBODY
spoke up in favor of moderating messages!!!!!!

The main reason for this action, was too many people complained that it
was taking tooooo long to get their messages posted to the list server.
In one instance it took 4 days for a job posting to get to the list,
when the job was only open for another day... so folks lost out on the
position.

In fact, I recently posted a position to the list server with my new
firm and got an immediate response from a potential candidate. This
position was going to be filled in a few days, and had there been a
delay of 3-4 days, it would have been filled (note: the candidate got an
interview).

Yes, you are the 4th person to complain about the list server in recent
days, but there are an equal number of complaints on the other side who
want quick responses and an open list server.

To moderate the list is a heavy, manual effort on the part of several
folks..as they have to read and approve every message, which is very
inefficient.

Thus, there isn't much I can do....the group has spoken.

Volunteer:
Why don't you volunteer to become the moderator....and read every
message daily. If you do, this may persuade the group to "moderate" the
list once again. But you'll have to do it every single day,, maybe 2x a
day...

This string is getting out of hand can someone stop it. THis message
board
is not for ctritquing contents just for posting and asking for leads. To

utilize as has become the practice is anoying. Who is the webmaster now?
