[jsfg_cinti] for those who have tested for census jobs

Hi,
In recent days I've heard from several people wondering about the status of
their applications with the Census Bureau. During my weekly conference call
today I was able to talk with a woman from the Regional Office to get a better
idea.

She advised that everyone just be patient, as the government moves slowly.
Certainly do not delay your job searches, and definitely do not turn down job
opportunities that offer you more long-term positions.

Just a reminder: All U.S. Census jobs are "temporary." Indeed most last just 6
to 10 weeks. They are good jobs as a stopgap, but not something you should
consider as "the answer" to your job search. Keep following your leads and
networking, networking, networking.

I also asked her about when the positions will start to be filled, as I had
been led to believe that people would start being called at the end of January
for jobs that would start this month. The good news is that those calls have
not gone out, so if you're in the pool of qualified candidates, you're not out
of the running. The bad news is I can't give you a definite time as to when
those jobs will begin. Note my earlier reference to the government moving
slowly.

I appreciate your patience. Do know that the Census will be hiring hundreds of
people in our region throughout this year and next, so by applying and taking
the test, you have taken all the steps you can to get your name among those who
could qualify for the positions. It's just a matter of time before Detroit will
start filling positions.

Sincerely,
Myra Calder, Recruiting Assistant
U.S. Census Bureau, Cincinnati
