Subject: WVXU FUND DRIVE - URGENT REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS
Importance: High
I'm sure you noticed WVXU was off the air on Thursday morning at 8:40am
after the demolition crews at Taft High School knocked a wall onto our
transformer. WGUC was on the air thanks to a CD player at the transmitter,
but WVXU had dead air most of the time with a spot describing what happened
several times an hour. On Friday we were able to hook up to the national
feed, but had no local content (or fundraising) because we had no power here
on Central Parkway until 6:30pm on Friday.
My apologies to folks who came down to the station Thursday and Friday. Our
volunteer list/schedule is in the computer and we weren't able to access it.
If you called, you got a busy signal - and our email system and websites
were down too. On Friday, most listeners, I'm sure, thought we were
broadcasting as usual because the national content was there.
We're going to start fundraising (for the third time this month!) again on
Monday morning. We expect to wrap up the drive on Tuesday evening. The
phones, I think, will be very busy and at this point we have only staff to
help answer them.
Due to the unusual circumstances, we won't do a formal schedule or
confirmation emails. But if you're able to come in for a few hours anytime
between 7am and 7pm on Monday or 6am to 6pm on Tuesday, we'd love to have
the help. No need to let us know when you'll be here. We'll just look at it
as an Open House, of sorts. And with 18 phone lines I don't expect to ever
have too many people here. (Our staff members can answer from their desks so
we really have more like 40 lines available.)
Short notice, I know. If you can't make it, send good thoughts our way. And
if you want to be sure we need the help before you come down, call the
pledge line at 513-419-7155 or 513-241-5757 and ask to speak with staff
person. We'll be here!
Thanks again for your help!
