description of Clovernook follows.
Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, the only recipient of
this yearâ??s Chamber Centennial Award for 100 years of service, is a nonprofit
organization prepared to change with the times. Since it was founded as a home
for blind women in 1903, Clovernookâ??s 27-acre North College Hill campus has
developed into a resource to help men and women of all ages maintain a level of
independence.
President Jeffrey Brasie says the organization has a vision of its own: â??
Engaging minds, enabling hands and enriching lives.â??
The center provides comprehensive rehabilitation services including training
and support for independent living, orientation and mobility instruction,
vocational training, job placement, counseling and recreation. Programs such as
Community Living and a youth initiative focus on developing skills people with
visual impairments need to become independent. Clovernookâ??s Vocational
Services
and Employment Center help individuals maximize their earning potential and
job satisfaction, both at the facility and in the local job market. Initiatives
such as Braille production generate revenue to support operations and create
job opportunities.
Headquartered in Cincinnati, the organization has other facilities in Dayton,
Ohio, and Memphis, Tenn. The staff numbers 265, including 125 who are blind
or visually impaired. For more information, visit www.clovernook.org or call
513-522-3860.
