[jsfg_cinti] Re: Unemployment rate lowest in nearly 5-1/2 years

Good point.
I was out for some time and finally gave up and started seriously going
through the process of starting my own business. My resume was still out there
so I
continued to get calls. But by that time I was fairly confident in my ability
to get the business going and less anxious about the interviews and the
interview processes. Since the business idea was in my former line of work I
remained conversant about my skills and also I didn't feel compelled to accept
just
any work condition suggested. So the percentage of in-person interviews that
came out of the initial screening calls kicked up and I eventually accepted an
offer that was a step up the ladder and at a much higher salary.

I guess the moral of the story is -
 - let go of any bitterness regarding your job loss and failed job efforts -
it comes out in interviews whether you plan for it to or not;
 - find a way to regain your confidence - the fact that I could start the biz
was a great confidence booster for me;
 - keep up with your expertise in your field whether by reviewing industry
magazines, old textbooks or whatever is appropriate for you;
 - try not to appear "desperate", when you're really just trying to be
accomodating to get the job.

Good luck
