I enjoy all questions and comments. The delete key is very quick and easy
to use. However, I have found some of these questions and answers very
useful. A couple times I was even able to chime in and help.

Subject: [jsfg_cinti] The Job Quest of Bill Matthews
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Being a very long-time user of various on-line "discussion groups", I'm
going to throw in my 2 cents that this particular case is decidedly
"borderline".
On the one hand, if I'm reading it correctly, the primary function of
this list is the distribution of job listings. However, various other
topics related to job searching do seem to come up.
Would a more technically oriented group be more appropriate for a
specific Excel question?
Possibly.
However, if a potential employer is sending an applicant home with an
Excel test, it's entirely possible that employer is actually testing to
see if that applicant will make use of external resources. That
particular job may involve making use of external resources on a regular
basis.
It seems to me that if an employer were mostly interested in a
"snapshot" of the applicant's current knowledge, they would use a
rigidly timed, structured test.
Some of the other "play by play" (i.e. whether employers are requiring
SSN's and graduation dates at the application stage) has been quite
informative and in fact, within reason of course, I think it might be
quite interesting to see more of this information from other job seekers
re: are there certain application/interview processes unique to this
area or are they pretty uniform across the country?
Thanks!
John
