[jsfg_cinti] Re: Substitute Teaching

Anyone interested in substitute teaching should check out the Social
Security website. Ohio is one of 15 states that passed 2 unfair laws in
1986. The Windfall Elimination Program and the Government Offset Pension.

WORKING EVEN ONE QUARTER AS A STATE EMPLOYEE COULD REDUCE YOUR SOCIAL
SECURITY BY AS MUCH AS 2/3.

My mother just retired after working 29 years in the private sector and 12
years at the University of Cincinnati. Upon retirement she was only eligible
for 1/3 of her social security. This is because she's supposedly entitled to
an Ohio pension; however, 12 years wasn't nearly enough for a decent
pension. Everything we've read says teachers have it the worst because they
tend to work summer jobs in the private sector. Unless you are spending your
entire career as an Ohio State employee you should read about these laws. My
mother is active in a group trying to repeal them. If you'd like more
information I can try to put you in touch with the group. I don't know if KY
and IN are included in the 15 states.

http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10045.html will get you started.

Good Luck Everyone.
