[jsfg_cinti] Re: Social Security number asked for on a job app?

As a long time HR professional in Cincinnati (25+ years), I would never ask
a candidate to put their SS# on an online application, no matter how
"secure" the site. I would suggest you type "provide as necessary" in the
space and submit.

Subject: [jsfg_cinti] Social Security number asked for on a job app?

Hello all:

I just went to the web page of King's Island to apply there for one of the
jobs that were in the notice sent to this list a couple days ago. And on
that page it has a box for an applicant to enter his/her social security
number. It is a SSL secure web site but I don't see anything that tells why
they are asking for a SS#. I for one don't like to give out my SS# ,
especially over the Internet. I can see giving it to them if I get hired,
but not until then, because it's confidential and identity theft is growing
at tremendous rates, or so I'm told.

What do others think about doing this, giving your SS# to prospective
employers in a situation like this?

  Thanks

  Bill
