1: Don't hang around in your bathrobe 'til noon.

Many thanks to all who sent suggestions and insights in response to last week's
column, wherein a reader signed "Little Bro" asked what his sister could do to
overcome her discouragement with a stalled job search. One thing on which
everyone seems to agree: Keep busy. "No matter how down you feel, don't hang
around in your bathrobe drinking coffee 'til noon. Get up at your regular time,
get dressed and washed up, and go do something," advises a reader named Linda,
who started her own business after a series of layoffs. "My mother taught me
this when I was a kid, and she was right." Another of Linda's tips: Take a
couple of college-level night courses. You'll not only hone your skills, or
pick up new ones, but you never know who you might meet there. One of her
classmates turned into a valuable mentor.
