Has anyone out there ever had this experience?
You work for someone just for one or two days per week, not as a paid employee,
but as a volunteer, shall we say, helping out for free, doing work that an
employer needs to have done and watching others who are doing the work that you
think you might like to do, learning about their work, watching "over their
shoulder" and getting an idea as to whether you would like to do this kind of
work on a permanent, full-time, paid basis. Of course, it gives the employer
the benefit of some free help for a day or two a week, for say a couple of
weeks, or however long you decide you want to do it (this is assuming that you
are collecting unemployment benefits and so have some cash flow anyway). It's a
concept known as "Shadowing". It's been suggested to me as a way to maybe "get
my foot in the door" of an organization.
I would like to hear from anyone who has done this and what their experience
was like, how they approached the employer about doing it etc.
Thanks,
Bill Matthews
